The dark side of pretty and pink: how choices we make for our toddlers can influence their teenage years and beyond.

A fascinating article of potential interest to those in our class, especially Saira (whose research project last semester on  media, sexuality, and female bodies was really interesting). Ask her about it!

  1. Very interesting! This reminds me of one of the story lines of the TV show "Parenthood" –one of the mothers (who works and the dad stays at home, an added twist) grapples with her daughter's desire to grow up to be a pagent girl and always wanting to be wearing pink or be a princess, despite her mother's attempts at teaching her women-empowering values.

The idea of whether or not Disney inspires imagination or limits it would be interesting to explore.
